More about Deidre's Art
Deirdre's work is primarily a journey that explores ancient pattern and how
it links to dream, contemporary abstraction, and other cultures.

With reference to the linkage between ancient pattern and contemporary
abstraction: "Grunwald's work is rooted in the belief that 'beyond the great
exterior surface beauty of Celtic pattern there is built into its bedrock
structure a foundation in sacred geometry' that can generate contemporary
abstract paintings...
Her mysterious and unique works are inspired by a passion for taking Celtic
pattern to a place where the traditional is transformed almost beyond
recognition. What remains are rich abstract embroideries of magical,
dreamlike places. Radiantly ephemeral places, poetically woven between the
positive and negative spaces of Grunwald's imaginary worlds."2
Her interest in painting representational still life from real life stems
from a love of pattern. The direct observation of the color, form and
spatial relationships in still life informs her abstract and Celtic pieces,
which come from the imagination.
Landscapes are painted in summer outdoors, and figure work in winter.
