The overall structure of Orange in a Cathedral II is that of a big arch. Pen and Ink, detailed, interlock patterns from the Celtic tradition in conjunction with an orange, form the imagery within the arch.

I was interested in making an image that combined architectural space with the kind of space that pattern occupies. An experiment to find out if something very tiny, like pattern, could co-exist with something very large, like architecture, in the same pictoral space.

The orange is to honor women who help take care of churches & places of worship. They come and go...bringing flowers...cleaning and straightening -often at odd or 'off' hours. They are usually very, quiet and go about their business as a matter of course, almost invisible.

The dream word attached to this painting was oranges. Sometimes a lot of fun can be had by looking at dream words phonetically; oranges sounds like origins and origins sounds like aura-gins.
